“Promoting The Power of Media Toward Furthering Democracy”

The overall goal of this project is to raise awareness among Kosovo youth on the power of media on the democratization of society through the development of a learning program on media literacy and critical thinking. Through this overall goal, the project aims to promote peace and security in Kosovo by using media literacy. Additionally, by fighting against misinformation and fake news, this project will promote gender equality and empowerment of women and girls while also supporting youth and disadvantaged groups of Kosovo society.

 The project “Promoting The Power of Media Toward Furthering Democracy” is financed by  by Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) and implemented by Jakova Innovation Center.

The project is expected to contribute positively to several categories. Primarily, the project will directly help young individuals, girls, women, and minority groups in Kosovo to further understand the importance of media literacy and its impact on our society. Additionally, these trained individuals will be able to distinguish misinformation/disinformation, hate speech, and fake news from real analyzed news. Moreover, through the gained skills, the participants will be able to advocate against the above-mentioned types of news while promoting peace in their communities by avoiding hate and misinformation being done to targeted groups in media.  At the same time, the participants will share the gained knowledge with their family and friends through projects about media literacy or daily conversation. On the other hand, as this project will take place in the entire country of Kosovo, citizens from all municipalities will also benefit. Kosovo citizens will acquire media literacy knowledge also through the Jakova Innovation Center’s official website, Facebook, and Instagram posts that will raise awareness about peacebuilding through media literacy
